I am not a “love and light” witch. I’m a “fuck around and find out” witch. I believe that all people have the right to defend themselves from harm, and this includes using magic. I also believe that sometimes hexing is required.

I’ve cast a hex or two in my life. I did so with crystal clear understanding of why I was doing it, who I was targeting, and what it meant to do so.

I understand that not everyone hexes. I don’t believe in the Rule of Three, but I respect that some people do. And if you aren’t comfortable with casting hexes, I think you shouldn’t do it. To do any magical work you need to be fully onboard with it working. And if you have any hesitations then you shouldn’t do it. Everyone has their own personal path, with their own practice, and they have to work within what aligns with their ethics and morals.

All that said, there are horrible things happening in the world. There is a genocide going on in Gaza. There is a war of conquest going on in Ukraine. The Trump administration is executing people in the street in America. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless in the face of institutional violence. Which is why I turn to magic, not as a panacea, but as a way to enact my will when I feel helpless. I work magic to lend support to the mundane actions I take in support of the people being targeted by ICE and against the fascist regime in charge of the United States of America.

So today, I’m sharing a recipe for a hexing oil that you can use in your hex work.

Hex oil recipe

  • About 1/2 a cup of Olive Oil
  • 1 T Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 T Black Pepper
  • 1 T White Pepper
  1. Heat oil in a sauce pan over low heat. Call on your spirit helpers, deities, ancestors and any other spirits to bless your work. Be clear in your intention as to what this oil is supposed to accomplish: to disturb, antagonize, bring justice to, harry, and deny peace to your targets.
  2. Add in the peppers. Stir clockwise to cement your intentions.
  3. Turn off the heat. Let cool a little bit. Pour into a jar using a filter lined funnel to filter out the peppers. A coffee filter works great, or use a paper towel or cheese cloth.
  4. Store the oil in an airtight jar. Use it to anoint candles, to write sigils, in jar spells, pouches and whatever hex work you are doing.

To give it more oomph, make the oil on Saturdays or in the hour of Saturn or on a Tuesday or in the hour of Mars.

Remember, when you are working any magic, but especially with hexing, to practice good magical hygiene. This means

  • Always cleanse yourself, your tools and space before you get started.
  • Protect yourself before you start.
  • Make sure to clean up afterwards, both mundanely and magically

Stay safe. Fuck ICE.
