It’s only been a few months since my book, The Witch’s Wardrobe, has been published, and yet, I didn’t sit back on my behind while that book was making its way through the various stages of publishing until it hit the shelves. I spent the last couple of months of 2024 working on my fifth book, A Witch Is … . The book started out years ago as an idea of writing something for my daughter to teach her how to be a witch. Not so much spells and rituals, but the underlying philosophy and core skills she’d need to see her magic bloom.

I never wrote that book, but the idea still stuck with me. I collected ideas in my planner/Book of Shadows over the years. And then, last year, I felt ready to tackle the subject of just what is involved in witchcraft and magic. I was going to address what skills, attitudes, and techniques one should have when approaching a regular practice. What I ended up writing was a witchy self-help book.

I’m not new to starting a book with one idea and ending up writing something slightly different. When I wrote The Scent of Lemon & Rosemary it was supposed to just be a little book on working with Hestia and domestic magic. It turned into a witchy home economics book as well. And I think the book is better for it. So now, as I look at what I wrote for A Witch Is … I see a book that fills a need for the beginner and working witch. I give guidelines on certain skills and approaches to witchcraft that will help not only your magic, but your soul as well.

The book is coming out January of 2026, but I can share the cover art now. I think Llewellyn knocked it out of the park again. The designer, Shira Atakpu, has been in charge of some of my covers (maybe all of them) since Llewellyn began publishing my books and every one of them have been gorgeous. But this cover is the one that I have actually thought about getting as a tattoo. It’s so beautiful I can’t believe it. I can’t wait to hold this book in my hands. As soon as it is available for preorder I’ll make an announcement here (and everywhere else, let’s be real).
